Carp use lipids for energy, cell structure and other activities, making their dietary level important - particularly in high quality food baits. Not only do they 'spare' proteins in a bait from being used as energy sources, they are attractors in their own right. The simple digestive system of carp prevents it from readily utilising solid lipids (fats) with high melting points. It is therefore more important to supply dietary lipid in the form of polyunsaturated fatty acids. A good combination that works is equal quantities of olive oil, rapeseed oil and sesame seed oil at a total inclusion of 5 - 15mls to one pound dry mix, depending on time of season and mix type.
