" In the heat of noonday I have cruised in a punt upon the surface of that small fathomless pool and looked far down among waving weed cables at broad netted backs stirring there in those mysterious depths." [Confessions of a Carp Fisher by 'BB']

When the god of fishing first pointed his finger at me and said, "It's a lifetime's sentence for you laddy!", I lived in an area of the country that was predominately game fishing orientated. There were just two coarse lakes where I could fish; one a deep copper quarry that had shallows at 20 feet plus depths plummeting down to 65 feet, and a clay pit that was full of lilies, bream, tench and carp.

Often I would sit quietly on the bank side and have my daydreaming rudely interrupted by great circles of water exploding in the margins. Occasionally I would see these slate-blue monsters wallow back into the depths; at no time did I ever think of catching one. To me they were uncatchable.

In a moment of madness I tried to catch these leviathans, lobbing out a gigantic piece of crust on my trusted 7ft spinning rod and 8lb line. Ten minutes later, a big double engulfed the lot, screamed off at three thousand miles an hour, snapping the line like cotton. From that moment a carp angler was born.

Since those halcyon days of 1969, I have fished for and caught carp from a wide range of waters, from tiny half acres ponds to 250 acre reservoirs. From Canals and rivers to heavily pressured club lakes. Lynette only started carp fishing a handful of years ago, but already has the uncanny knack of catching the biggest fish first!
